I've built software on oil rigs, wind farms and power lines in fifteen countries. Now I teach people to build their own.

Remote sensing and robotics, 2014 onwards

I started before the company was incorporated, making slides and films for its first clients. It grew into a drone data technology company working across the world. I grew with it: designer, multimedia technologist, drone pilot, technical manager, senior manager for tech strategy in Japan, then VP of Future Tech.

My job, again and again, was to go first. Win the client's trust, work out how the job should be done, build the first version, then hand it to a team to run.

In the field

Filmed and flew a wellhead access deck in the North Sea for Maersk Oil, now TotalEnergies. Produced the Petronas PrefChem plant launch film, shown to King Salman of Saudi Arabia. Set up the weekly drone progress reports for PNB118 in 2014. They still run.

Opened the company's first overseas market, flying telco towers for NBN in Australia. Inspected wind turbines in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Japan and China, and power lines for Nukissiorfiit in Greenland, where I also won the flight permits for Arctic airspace. Wrote the drone inspection method for TNB's transmission lines.

Visited DJI's research lab in Shenzhen and gave engineering feedback on drones for hazardous sites. DJI built it into their M200 series.

Products

I built or led every product in the company's analytics line. Vertikaliti, a wind turbine inspection product I took from first principles to paying customers, later sold off as its own business. Dronos, a system for tracking telco tower equipment and finding empty space operators can rent out. GeoSight, the agriculture platform, where I designed the data flow. AERIS, a geospatial intelligence platform where I am lead designer and front-end engineer. Rooftop inspection for Suntory in Japan, with analysis of how fast each surface decays.

Also a real-time 5G network model for Digital Nasional Berhad, and the company's own website and brand work.

Right now I'm building a digital twin of a working factory floor.

Why boleh.ai

"Boleh" means "can" in Malay. It's the most Malaysian word there is: hopeful, direct, no fuss. Business owners can build their own software with AI, if someone who has done it sits next to them.

Not a course. Not a platform. A room, a real problem, and enough time to fix it. One day, or three.
